Change....
So, I understand that a lot of people are afraid of change but like our girl, Ms. Crow says.... "A change would do you good". So... I like to think that I embrace change. I like to think that I look for things to change, grow and hopefully improve. So... When I felt blah and yuck, I knew I had to make some changes, to va-va-va-voom my life a bit. So, I sat down and mapped out my life as it is and how I want it to be...
One area I knew was going pretty darn well was my family & marriage. All good but I will tell you that having a vow renewal was a boost to our relationship. Business.... that's another post that hasn't been written yet but I'm working on... Then there's just me.... Donna... that girl I look at (or avoid looking at) in the mirror. That girl needed some work! Her personality works but whoa! She needed a style boost.
Laughingly, I tried to get myself on What Not to Wear. I figured my too much black, t-shirt & jeans wardrobe would have me as a shoe-in. The funny thing is, they actually sent me an email saying they were interested but I needed a video of myself. At that point, I chickened out. All these biscuits on national tv no longer sounded like the answer I'd been praying for.
So... What next? Well.... I cut my hair. Got bangs, anyway... It's still ridiculously long. I just saw a photo of myself from last Saturday's wedding and it looks like the bride is being posed by Cousin It from the Addams Family. I might need to embrace a little more change there.
I started slowly working on my wardrobe. Less black. More color. A skirt or dress here & there. That still needs help but I'm progressing. Anyway, I've gotten into the habit of wearing only my watch and a pair of hoop earrings so I knew I could use a little help in the jewelry department, so when my friend Kimberly invited me to a Stella & Dot jewelry party, it seemed like a sign from God.
Her name is Alyson Doyle. Her bubbly personality and very stylish look told me I had come to the right place. AND... she immediately got started dressing me up with jewelry that would look good with what I wore.
After a couple hours of shopping, I thought... "Why not?!" and decided to have a party myself. Generally, I'm not a fan of the home party gig but... I really like this jewelry & it was an excuse to socialize... All good, right?
So... then being the chatty dk that I am, I learned that Alyson might be getting engaged. YAY!!! (Actually, since then, it's happened so a BIG congrats to Adam & Alyson!!!) Then I learned that Stella & Dot's CEO was actually a co-founder of WeddingChannel.com Hmmm..... all of these things seem right up my alley, don't you think?
When I got my necklace, it was like a little ego boost in a box. It spoke to me!!!
The packaging is too cute!!!
Okay... I know what you're thinking. Yes. I bought black.... But... black jewelry will look great on all my new bright colored clothing. Right?! Anyway.... I'm really looking forward to the party. Cocktails, jewelry and friends seems like a perfect combination. If you want to join the party, shoot me an email at dkphotographic [at] gmail [dot] com for the details. If you can't actually attend, I encourage you to visit their website and shop there. Click 'find your hostess' and punch in my name.
And here's where I'm going to try to make it fun. Leave a comment below and I will randomly choose a winner from the comments here to receive a little bauble from Stella & Dot. Good luck!

Donna I think you're fabulous! That box was right..you have smarts and style! I love ya! Oh and one of the cool things about that necklace is that you can buy different broaches to attach to it for different looks :)
Kelley, you CLEARLY know you're women (haha) & your jewelry. I'll be getting a broach for it! Love it! Hope you're coming. I miss you!!
