I wrote about how crazed I get this time of year. Today, though, I am relaxing with the family. We have two Christmas trees at my house: the "dk" tree and the family tree. The "dk" tree is all about being pretty. It's not exactly professionally done but it's pretty nonetheless. But the family is all about... well... family, of course. It's loaded with ornaments that tell stories: a gift from a friend, the ornament I picked up in Arizona, the orca that my friend sent from Alaska after she ran a marathon, the kids' first Christmas and so on....
But of all the ornaments, my favorites are the ones my kids have made over the years.
These two are just a small sampling of the many handmade ornaments. I know my days of the handmade ornaments are numbered but I'll always treasure these. Honestly, the holiday season for me, is mainly for the kids. It's a chance to let them feel like life contains some magic. A big man in a red suit is really that generous. He really trades fantastic gifts for just some cookies and milk. Reindeer really know how to fly. Snowmen come to life.
I think one of the reasons so many adults get depressed this time of year is because we let go of the magic and live in the reality. Well... For just a minute... Close your eyes and look at today like you're a child. Believe in Santa. Believe in the magic. Feel the spirit!
Because if you don't... you'll probably get socks and underwear. :)
