So. Andy and I decided to take an impromptu vacation to see Fred and Carolyn (Andy's dad and stepmom). We loaded up the car and headed Northeast. Carolyn's place is perfect. It's nestled in the woods on a lake. It's peaceful, quiet and it doesn't get very good cell phone reception. Like I said---perfect!
This is the view from Carolyn's dock. I must have a dozen pictures of this because I think we spent the entire 3 days on the dock. The kids had so much fun fishing, splashing and boating.
Here's Fred and Carolyn at Dutch's restaurant--see where Andy gets his good looks? And isn't Carolyn beautiful? Her personality is just so amazing. She's so warm and loving and is constantly striving to live life with all the joy and love it has to offer. That is truly something to aspire to and admire, I think. A lot of us get so caught up in day to day life and chores that we sometimes forget to enjoy the life we're living.
So... while at the lake. I took a little time to myself. It was great! I took time to be thankful for all I have and all the great people in my life, for my family, my friends and my client/friends. Something I really determined. I'm really grateful to be able to call myself an artist. It's not a title that I came to easily but I'm glad I am finally accepting it. It always seemed a little nutty to say "I'm an artist." but... I am a little nutty so it fits... ; )
Enough with the deep thoughts. I'm not Jack Handy, for sure. Here's my darling girl waiting for her turn on the paddleboat. Andy calls her Little Donna. Ya think?!Is this not the face of summer?! My sweet Aidan with bleached hair soaking up the sun....
And Mr. Austin. You guessed it. Mr. teenager here didn't exactly like the idea of mom with the camera on vacation so he was totally being ornery. Still a handsome fella, though. Although he wasn't as wrapped up in the fishing part of our trip, I think he enjoyed being on the water.
That's me with Austin on our sunset cruise. I think I'll require that all photos of me be taken from this distance and with this lighting from now on. ; ) I look fantastic!
Between walks in the woods, fishing with the kids, decadent napping and hanging with the family, I did manage to get a few "just for dk" images. This one was taken early on the day we left. The water was so calm, it was like glass. So... a floating dock and clouds reflecting. Magic. So magic, actually, that we'll probably be selling limited edition prints of it. Let me know if you're interested.
I love the top photo but I think this one if my favorite. It's crisp. It's warm. It looks timeless. I think one of those limited editions of this one will be hangin' in my very own home. ; ) What I wouldn't give to have a bride posed in this one!!!!!
Fred and Carolyn.... thank you so much for your hospitality. It was so good to see you both and spend time with you. The kids love you both so much and so do Andy and I. My only sadness is that you all live so far away so time together is not as abundant as I'd like it. Love you!
